How a 4-person team became agents at 3× speed
Scene 01 · The thesis

A cross-functional team in parallel. One operator.

The team that used to build FitWay was four people: 2 engineers, 1 social media specialist, 1 wellness specialist. A normal small product team. It shipped in serial pipelines — build, review, marketing copy, wellness content, deploy. Each handoff lost time to coordination. A four-person team doesn’t ship four times faster than a one-person team for that exact reason.

An agentic team doesn’t lose time to handoffs. Two engineer agents code in parallel and peer-review each other’s diffs. Social and wellness agents produce launch content alongside. The Tech Lead agent reviews the merged result and orchestrates the deploy. There’s no morning standup, no PR sitting overnight, no timezone gap. Same shape of work, three times the ship velocity.

Scene 02 · The pipeline

Build, content, ship. Continuous loop.

The four specialist agents pick up work from the backlog and start in parallel. Engineers review each other’s diffs; the social and wellness agents review each other’s drafts. Not the human in the loop, not the next morning. Within minutes.

The Tech Lead agent reviews the merged result, runs the deploy gates (lint, type-check, integration tests, mobile builds), and pushes to TestFlight. Every step has logs the operator can audit. The bus factor isn’t one — it’s the runbook.

Scene 03 · SRE on duty

Production has its own agent. Watching, always.

A dedicated SRE agent monitors FitWay 24/7 — latency, error rates, crash logs, App Store reviews, the App Store status page. When a metric drifts, the agent surfaces a contextual incident with proposed fixes before a human would notice.

The interesting part: most fixes don’t need a human. The SRE agent rolls back a bad release, scales an overloaded backend, drains a queue, retries a stuck job. The runbook is its training material. The operator gets a Slack message after the incident is closed.

Scene 04 · Marketing in the loop

Growth runs on the same playbook. Different agent.

The Marketing agent owns FitWay’s growth surface area. Editorial calendar, App Store screenshots, video scripts, social cadence, response to App Store reviews. It uses the same release notes and feature tickets the engineers use, so positioning is grounded in what just shipped — not in last quarter’s pitch deck.

The operator approves direction once a week and reviews exceptions. Routine output goes out without a meeting.

Scene 05 · The economics

A four-person team. £500/month.

The team that used to build FitWay was 2 engineers (£100K each), 1 social media specialist (£45K), and 1 wellness specialist (£50K) — ~£295K/year loaded.

The agentic stack runs at £500/month. ~50× cheaper for the same shape of output — with the SRE pattern and Tech Lead orchestration thrown in for free, and 3× the ship velocity.
